NEW YORK  — The U.S. government says the average price of retail gasoline will rise to $2.46 a gallon this summer as oil prices bounce back. But prices at the pump will still remain below levels of just a few years ago. The Energy Information Administration says gas averaged $2.23 a gallon last summer. The hike reflects the 15 percent rise in oil prices over the last year. But oil remains far below its mid-2014 highs. The agency says it believes gas will rise to an average this year of $2.39 a gallon, up from $2.15 in 2016. That means the average U.S. household will spend about $200 more on gas.

CHICAGO  — Anthony Rizzo hit a game-winning single off Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Monday night after raising a World Series championship banner for the first time at Wrigley Field.

Bryce Harper tied a career high with four hits and reached base in all six plate appearances as the Washington Nationals routed the St. Louis Cardinals 14-6.

CHICAGO — Emergency starter Jerian Grant had 17 points and a career-high 11 assists on Monday night, and the Chicago Bulls routed the Orlando Magic 122-75 to move closer to a postseason berth. The Bulls led by as many as 47 points in their largest margin of victory this season.

CHICAGO  – The Chicago Blackhawks have been here so many times before. They’re 16 postseason wins away from a fourth Stanley Cup title in eight years, and their veteran core knows it has the talent and the experience to survive the two-month playoff grind. Nobody else in the Western Conference playoff picture can say any of that. None of the other seven teams has won a recent Stanley Cup. In fact, only three of those franchises have raised the Cup at all, and only two players were in their current uniform for it: Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, who won their rings a decade ago. So is it Chicago’s conference crown to lose when postseason play gets underway Wednesday?

LAKE FOREST, Ill.  — The Chicago Bears have waived cornerback Tracy Porter. A nine-year veteran, Porter led the club with 35 pass breakups over two seasons with the Bears. He had 13 breakups and two interceptions to go with 48 tackles last season. The move announced Monday is the latest in an overhaul of the secondary. Chicago signed cornerbacks Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper in free agency.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.  — Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner’s administration argues that Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s attempt to stop state employee paychecks amid the budget crisis is ill-timed and ill-conceived. A circuit court judge ruled in July 2015 that workers could be paid even though there wasn’t a state budget agreement. Madigan’s office did not immediately comment.

Child abuse comes in many forms including physical, sexual, mental and neglect. Resa says you can report suspected child abuse anonymously by calling 1-800-25-ABUSE.
